Leather & PU diaries

Leather & PU-Leather Diary Manufacturers in Sivakasi — Executive and Corporate Diaries in Bulk

The year-end gift that lands on a managing director's desk — PU leather, bonded leather and rexine covers, foil-blocked with your logo, sectional-sewn over 70–100 GSM maplitho, from 500 pieces.

In short

A leather diary from Sivakasi usually means a PU-leather or bonded-leather cover over a 1.5–2 mm board, foil-blocked with a logo, holding 70–100 GSM maplitho pages that are sectional-sewn so the book lies flat. The minimum order is 500 pieces and a dated 2027 run takes 15–25 days from artwork approval.

Why the same diary is cheaper direct from the press

ARC Print, a national reseller, lists a wooden-finish diary at ₹120, a spiral notebook at ₹70, an executive diary at ₹220 and a premium corporate diary at ₹320, with up to 70% off at larger orders. Those are retail-marked rates with a reseller's margin built in on top of the press that actually bound the book — and in a great many cases that press is in Sivakasi. Buying the diary where it is made removes that margin layer. We quote ex-factory on your spec rather than off a price list, which is why a 2,000-piece executive-diary order placed direct almost always lands below the aggregator's single advertised number.

Cover materials, and the gift each one suits

PU leather, hardbound

Polyurethane-coated fabric over a 1.5–2 mm board. It takes a crisp foil block, resists a year of handling, and is the default for a corporate gifting diary because it looks and feels like leather at a fraction of the cost. Available in the full range of cover shades, debossed or screen-printed.

  • MOQ 500
  • 70–80 GSM inner
  • Foil-block ready

Bonded & genuine leather

Bonded leather — reconstituted leather fibre with a coated finish — carries more weight and a warmer grain than PU, and genuine leather is available on request for a flagship gift. Both suit the executive diary a company gives its top accounts, usually on 80–100 GSM inner so the book has substance.

  • Premium executive
  • 80–100 GSM
  • Sectional-sewn

Rexine soft-cover

Flexible rexine over a thin board or as a limp cover, the economical choice when a company is gifting thousands and wants a diary that still looks branded without executive-diary cost. Perfect-bound or wiro, usually A5 or the 1/6 size, on 70 GSM inner to keep the piece price down.

Cloth, buckram & novelty

Cloth or buckram over board is the durable case-bound cover institutions and libraries specify, and cork or wooden-finish covers answer an eco or novelty brief. All take a foil or screen logo; the case-bound build pairs with sectional-sewn signatures for a diary meant to survive a full year of daily use.

Why sectional-sewn binding is worth paying for in a diary

A diary is opened and folded flat several hundred times across a year, which is the one thing a cheaply-bound book will not survive. Sectional-sewn binding — the pages gathered into signatures and stitched through the fold before the cover goes on — is what lets an executive diary lie flat on the desk without the block cracking away from the spine. It is the binding resellers specify on their dated corporate diaries for exactly this reason, and it is the default we quote on any PU or bonded-leather hardbound.

Perfect binding, where the pages are milled and glued at the spine, is cheaper and perfectly adequate on a rexine soft-cover volume diary that will not be stress-folded daily. Wiro and spiral let the diary fold completely back on itself, which some planners and dated diaries prefer, at the cost of the premium hardbound look. We match the binding to the cover and the use: sectional-sewn for the gift that has to impress and endure, perfect or wiro for the volume piece where price leads.

Inner paper, ruling and dating

The inner block is 70, 80 or 100 GSM maplitho, in cream or white wove. Cream wove is easier on the eye and reads as more premium, which is why executive diaries lean to an 80 GSM cream; 70 GSM white keeps a volume diary light and cheap, and 100 GSM suits a flagship book or one that will take fountain-pen ink. Ruling is your call — single-line dated pages, a day-per-page or week-per-spread planner layout, undated ruled pages, or a mix with planner, notes and directory sections. A dated 2027 diary carries the full calendar, the planner grids and the regional holiday and festival marks the recipient expects, all proofed and approved by you before the inner goes on plate.

Branding a corporate diary — what reads premium, what wastes budget

Worth doing

  • Foil block of the logo on the cover — the single finish that makes a PU or leather diary read as a gift
  • Blind deboss for a restrained, tactile mark where foil would be too loud
  • A printed first-leaf or a brand ribbon marker, seen every time the diary opens
  • Edge gilding or a matching elastic closure on the executive tier
  • A short branded planner or directory section printed into the inner block

Think twice

  • Full-colour printing across a PU cover — it rarely sits as cleanly as a single foil and adds cost
  • Laser engraving on a thin PU coat, which can scorch through to the backing
  • 100 GSM inner on a 400-page diary — the book becomes too thick to close flat
  • Genuine leather below a few hundred pieces, where the hide cost dwarfs the saving of buying direct

Why a diary order comes to Sivakasi

Sivakasi, in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu, produces roughly 30% of the diaries made in India — the single reason a corporate buyer sourcing 5,000 to 100,000 branded diaries for the year-end gifting window keeps arriving at the same cluster. The density is the advantage: the board, the maplitho, the foil, the sewing job-workers and the binders are all within a few streets of each other, so a leather diary is specified, sewn, cased and foiled without the book ever leaving town. That is what lets a press here hold a 500-piece minimum on a sectional-sewn leather diary and still turn it in 15–25 days. For how that cluster economics works across every product, see the Sivakasi printing industry guide.

Questions we answer daily

Is buying a leather diary direct cheaper than a reseller?

Usually, yes. A national reseller like ARC lists an executive diary at ₹220 and a premium corporate diary at ₹320, with up to 70% off at larger orders — but those carry a margin on top of the press that bound the book. Ordering ex-factory from the Sivakasi press that actually makes it removes that layer, which matters most above 2,000 pieces.

Is a 'leather' diary real leather?

Most are not, and that is by design. The common cover is PU leather — polyurethane-coated fabric that looks and feels like leather, takes a crisp foil block and costs far less. Bonded leather uses reconstituted leather fibre for more weight, and genuine leather is available on request for a flagship gift, usually only sensible above a few hundred pieces.

What is the minimum order for leather diaries?

Five hundred pieces. Below 500 the foil die, the cover tooling and the sewing setup are too large a share of the per-piece cost, and a digital short-run shop will be cheaper — we will tell you if your quantity is better served that way. From 500 upward the ex-factory economics of a Sivakasi press take over.

Which binding lies flat on a desk?

Sectional-sewn binding. The pages are stitched into signatures through the fold before casing, so an executive diary opens flat without the block cracking off the spine across a year of daily use. Perfect binding is fine on a rexine volume diary, and wiro or spiral lets the book fold fully back for planner layouts.

What inner paper and GSM do you use?

The inner block is 70, 80 or 100 GSM maplitho in cream or white wove. An executive diary usually takes 80 GSM cream for a premium feel; 70 GSM white keeps a volume diary light and economical; 100 GSM suits a flagship book or fountain-pen users. Ruling can be dated, day-per-page, week-per-spread, or undated.

Can you foil-block or deboss our logo?

Yes — foil block, blind deboss, emboss, screen print, UV and laser engraving are all available on the cover and the ribbon. Foil is the finish that most makes a diary read as a corporate gift; a blind deboss suits a more restrained brand. We proof the logo placement and foil colour before the cover tooling is cut.

What sizes and page counts do you make?

The common Indian diary sizes are 1/4, 1/6, A5, B5 and A4, with the hardbound covers built on a 1.5–2 mm board. Page counts run from a slim 160-leaf planner to a 400-page executive diary; the thicker the inner, the lower the GSM we recommend so the book still closes flat. Tell us the size and extent and we quote the board to match.

How long for a dated 2027 diary run?

Fifteen to twenty-five days from approved artwork and advance. The diary season runs August to November, when most corporates place 5,000 to 100,000-piece orders at once, so booking early keeps you at the 15-day end of that window. A dated book also needs its full calendar and holiday data approved before the inner goes on plate.
